The Stanly County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday night instead of their normal meeting date on the first Monday of the month. The reason for the move was that Commissioner Peter Ascuitto held prior engagements with the April Fools Run.
Sharon Scott, director for Stanly County’s department of Social Services, appeared before the board and requested that the Commission recognize April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
“We planted our pinwheel garden today... Thats one pinwheel for every child reported to have suffered abuse,” said Scott.
She read a proclamation before the board and, further, called on the community to help increase awareness and efforts in preventing child abuse.
The commissioners unanimously voted to pass the proclamation declaring April Child Abuse Prevention Month.
