Stanfield backs funds for parks and rec

Thursday, April 4, 2013 — Although budget cuts are coming throughout the state of North Carolina, the Stanfield Commissioners voted to pass a resolution that supports keeping current funding available to parks and recreation departments across the state.

The Commissioners unanimously passed the resolution in support for the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) Thursday night inside Town Hall.

Governor Pat McCrory’s latest budget proposal would cut funding to the PARTF by 44 percent.

Mayor Kevin Barbee remarked that funding for parks and recreation is important because it can be enjoyed by everyone and is not limited to specific groups, which may be the case with other grants.
