Misenheimer, April meeting

Monday, April 8, 2013 — The Village of Misenheimer’s council met Monday evening for their regular meeting for the month. The 2013/2014 budget preparation was the most important item listed on the agenda for the meeting.

According to a proposed budget for the 2013/2014 fiscal year, Misenheimer expects to spend around $373,950. Again, the village council is still working on the proposed budget, thus nothing is set in stone as of yet.

Of note for this proposed budget, Police Chief Erik McGinnis brought up at the last meeting that officers for Misenheimer ere using their holiday time instead of vacation time. On the new budget, officers will receive an eight hour credit for each holiday. The idea behind this is that officers will be encouraged to use their vacation days for time off instead of accrued holiday time.

Another item of import Monday night was a discussion for the 10-year anniversary of the village.

  • Do White Castle prices tell us anything about the minimum wage?

NEW YORK - Economists love hamburgers. Specifically fast-food burgers. This is partly because all right-thinking human beings love ground meat on a bun, but it's also because the sandwich makes a handy yardstick for international financial comparisons. The ingredients and labor involved in preparing a Big Mac are pretty much the same no matter where you are in the world, so by looking at how many hours of toiling it takes a worker to earn enough to purchase one, you can get a sense of how wages really stack up across countries. The Economist famously created the Big Mac index in 1986 to see which currencies were overvalued. It started as a joke. Now, as the magazine proudly notes, it's a subject of academic study.
