The Stanly County Board of Education met Tuesday night for their regular April meeting, with a public hearing on the 2013/2014 school year budget that took pace prior to the meeting and which spilled over into the general meeting.
One of the items on the agenda of notable import was a presentation by Dr. Terry Griffin, superintendent, on the company Manage Mobility wanting to donate a substantial amount of money in the form of iPads or some similar tablet.
According to policy 8220, it is up to the superintendent’s discretion to evaluate whether a nominal donation can be accepted by the school system. I in honor of this policy, and the sizable nature of the donation, Dr. Griffin wanted to bring the issue before the board to make sure everything was completely transparent.
Should SCS choose to accept the donation, all that Manage Mobility will require of them it that they be allowed to conduct an assesment of student achievement in conjunction with technology, an endeavor already in-line with some of the goals of SCS.
