N.C. State Highway Patrol has confirmed that a man died following an accident Friday evening, however, exact causes remain pending.
Around 7 p.m., a vehicle operated by Charles Michael Peterson, 24, of Charlotte, was traveling south on Endy Road in excess of the posted speed limit of 55, according to the Highway Patrol. The exact speed was not available as of this report.
Highway Patrol officials said the vehicle traveled off the right shoulder of the roadway and that Peterson overcorrected, causing the vehicle to collide with a tree off the right shoulder. The vehicle came to rest on its right side.
Highway Patrol confirms Peterson was not wearing his seat belt.
Peterson was taken to Stanly Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Two passengers, Wade Mizelle of Charlotte and Allston Oehler of Charlotte, were transported to local hospitals as well, Mizelle flown to CMD-Main and Oehler to Stanly Regional, then CMC-Main, Highway Patrol Trooper Bost confirmed Saturday night. Bost said Oehler was not wearing a seat belt, but could not confirm at this time the status of Mizelle.
The accident remains under investigation.
