City addresses economic development

Monday, April 1, 2013 — Albemarle City Council won’t be moving forward with their economic development plans with the help of the county commissioners, at least after their initial request.

In January, council members met with the economic development task force, which was formed by council last fall.

The task force recommendations, which included working with the county’s Economic Development Commission, led to a series of conversations by representatives from Albemarle and the county.

Nearly two weeks ago, commission Chairmen Gene McIntyre informed council that the commission had made no decision in having a joint meeting between the commissioners and city council.

For reaction from the council as well as what they plan to do moving forward, see Tuesday’s edition of The Stanly News & Press.
