Friday, August 23, 2013 — A Stanly County resident died in an automobile accidents Wednesday, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Caitlyn Elizabeth White, 20, of 19885 No View Road, Locust, who was driving a 2001 Chevy, was killed following a collision with a 2011 Ford operated by Andrew Perry Gardner of 7611 Sugar and Wine Road, Marshville.

Highway Patrol reports the incident happened at 2:58 p.m. on Millingport Road, a few miles outside of Richfield.

Reports indicate White was traveling northeast on Millingport, while Gardner was headed southeast. White lost control of the vehicle and crossed the centerline, running off the roadway to the left and striking the opposing vehicle, Highway Patrol concludes.

Gardner attempted to avoid White’s vehicle by swerving to the right. Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled stop after the collision, according to patrol reports.

White was transported to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast, where she was pronounced dead Thursday.

Highway Patrol reports that White overcorrected and oversteered, swerving to avoid slippery conditions, possibly following a rainstorm.

Gardner’s vehicle is owned by D.L. Peterson Trust, a company near Baltimore, Md.
