Man fatally hit in Albemarle

Monday, May 13, 2013 — Albemarle Police are investigating a fatal hit and run incident.

According to Major Danny Bowen, Tony Wayne Cunningham Jr., 20, of Norwood, passed away May 12, after he was struck by a car on Snuggs Street.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of Snuggs Park Road, Bowen said. He confirmed the accident was a hit and run.

A witness described the vehicle as a possible 2000s model Toyota or Mitsubishi that was dark blue/gray in color, police report.

This vehicle may have extensive front end damage, police report. The witness gave a description of the suspect as a black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks.
