County Commission hears Albemarle Task Force

Monday, May 20, 2013 — Dr. Russ Sharples, a member of Albemarle’s Economic Development Task Force, appeared before the County Commission Monday night. Sharples’ purpose was to inform the Commission of the results of the task force’s findings and to urge collaboration between the Commission and Albemarle on economic development for the county.

Sharples gave a brief presentation in which he elaborated on many topics of economic development, but he discussed the city’s priorities.

“The city is not branded well,” said Sharples, saying that marketing Albemarle is one of their top priorities.

Another of these priorities was enhancing the Economic Development Commission. Sharples explained that Albemarle was willing to fund another position for the EDC that would be dedicated to maintaining and developing the local economy.
