APD makes arrests in shooting, armed robbery cases

Incidents believed to be gang related

Wednesday, July 17, 2013 — The Albemarle Police Department (APD) is in the process of making arrests in the recent shooting on Oakwood Avenue and armed robbery at Ingles Market Inc.

The incidents are believed to be gang related, according to Police Chief William Halliburton.

“All the individuals have admitted to being Bloods gang members,” Halliburton said.

“These individuals thought they could come from another city and set up camp here in Albemarle and start their gang life here. But when we identify possible gangs, we aggressively pursue them.”

These are the kinds of incidents APD has been gearing up for through their gang initiative program, Halliburton said.

“When we started the gang initiative a year and a half ago, we were preparing for something like this,” he said.

NEW YORK - Economists love hamburgers. Specifically fast-food burgers. This is partly because all right-thinking human beings love ground meat on a bun, but it's also because the sandwich makes a handy yardstick for international financial comparisons. The Economist famously created the Big Mac index in 1986 to see which currencies were overvalued. It started as a joke. Now, as the magazine proudly notes, it's a subject of academic study.
