After an intense search, Diane McClinton has been hired as the new director of the Stanly Community Inn to succeed Chris Story, who stepped down in August.
McClinton most recently worked for the Urban League of Central Carolinas as the project director of the Urban Youth Empowerment Program where she assisted in the proposal writing and implementation of more than a $2 million program aimed at at-risk and adjudicated youth, ages 16 -24. She was recognized during this project, along with her organization, by the National Urban Leagues/U.S. Department of Labor among the top performing Urban League national affiliates and was the recipient of the Goodworks and Mecks Care awards in Mecklenburg County.
McClinton was chosen among more than 34 applicants and has already enthusiastically jumped into the job with both feet.
“We have a wonderful staff who have been showing me the ropes at the Community Inn and I have met many wonderful volunteers who provide meals and help keep the place running in a lot of ways. I love it,” McClinton said.
McClinton will oversee the operation of the Community Inn, manage the use of the Carolina Homeless Information Network, as well as maintain and continue to build relationships with ministry partners, volunteers, churches and other organizations that provide resources needed to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Inn.
The Community Inn has provided refuge and housing for more than 285 Stanly County homeless men, women and children since September 2009.
Operating funds are a constant need at the Community Inn and a barbecue fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 16 at First Baptist Church, Albemarle, to help offset some of these operating costs.
The Good Ole Boys will again be cooking their pork barbecue for this event. Instead of providing meals this fall, the barbecue will be sold in pound containers for $8. Also, a 6 ½ pound tray will be available for $48. Orders of more than five pounds can be delivered.
Anyone wishing to place an order may call or text (704) 438-2611 today or come by First Baptist Church on Friday to purchase.
