Tuesday, March 12, 2013 —

Tom Ramseur, President and CEO of the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce announced his retirement to the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors effective September 30, 2013.

Since 2006, Ramseur, 64, has led the Chamber through challenging times to become one of the fastest growing Chambers in the country.

“Tom has been good for our Chamber, working extremely hard to bring our community of businesses together,” says current Board Chair, Bill Lawhon, Bank of Stanly President.

Matt Smith, 2012 Board Chair and owner of radio stations WSPC and WZKY has worked closely with Ramseur for several years.

“Tom has been a tremendous asset to the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce. During his time as President, our chamber has grown and thrived, even during a down economy. He has also been very instrumental in making our chamber a strong voice in the community that works hard to bring people and organizations together and build a better business environment in Stanly County. I am sad that Tom is leaving, but am very happy for him and his family and I wish him all the best.”

“It has been a privilege to serve as President and CEO of the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce,” says Ramseur.

“I have enjoyed and benefitted from strong support from our board of directors, staff, members, and the entire community. Because of this support and partnerships, the Chamber has continued to be an effective and beneficial organization in supporting local businesses and enhancing economic development in our area.”

“Over the next 6 months we will work with Tom and a search committee to fill this very important role for our Chamber,” says Lawhon.

“Information on how to apply for the position will be forthcoming.”

A resident of Albemarle, he has been active in numerous civic, church and professional organizations for many years. He is a member of the Albemarle Rotary Club, having been a Rotarian for 33 years, and is a member of the First Lutheran Church in Albemarle.

Ramseur brought his expertise to the Chamber role after a highly successful career as president and CEO of the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce from 1988 until 2001. He has also worked in the field of fundraising and development for private schools and churches and served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Technologies Edge in Concord.

He has been married to the former Diane Baker of Albemarle for 36 years. The couple has three married daughters and 6 grandchildren.

“Even after my retirement,” says Ramseur, “I will continue to be one of the biggest cheerleaders of Stanly County and all of the benefits that are available here. This is a ‘can do’ community and the future holds much promise and opportunity for our citizens.”
