Locust, May meeting

Thursday, May 9, 2013 — Locust City Council met Thursday night with a full agenda, including a presentation on a comprehensive transportation plan for Locust, but the true excitement didn’t start until the end of the meeting.

During the period for public comments, four individuals stood up to speak about the closing of the Locust Community Building.

At the April regular meeting Locust’s council voted to close down the structure, due to its age and unsafe nature.

“We didn’t just say the building is shut down. We were told it’s not safe. We had to shut it down,” said Council Member Harry Fletcher.

  • Doug Creamer Maintaining hope

Gardeners are facing challenges with the weather this year. It seemed like we were getting great conditions in April and May. The weather was warm and we were getting some good rains. Then sometime in June the rain stopped. It got so dry that I didn’t have to cut the grass. While I enjoyed the break, the garden was not happy at all. I was having to water quite a bit to keep the vegetable garden alive and growing.

    So whodunit?
Forget Col. Mustard, the library and the candlestick, this time it was the drama student in the Jesse F. Niven Center with the bottle of poison.
At this year’s Uwharrie Players Drama Camp, campers took the stage not just to act, but to figure out who poisoned Gladdis, the talent scout.
