Two engineering students from Stanly Community College head to Louisville, Kentucky, this month for the SkillsUSA National Competition. Both Ryan Hittepole and Curt Love will compete to qualify for the WorldSkills Competitions to be held in Kazan, Russia, in August 2019.
Both Curt and Ryan are SCC Electronics Engineering Technology graduates, 2017 and 2018, respectively; in addition, both are taking additional courses at SCC that are required for entry into the Electrical Engineering degree program at UNC-Charlotte.
Ryan and Curt teamed up to win first place in Mechatronics at the 2018 SkillsUSA State Championships, which helped to position them for a chance to go to Russia to compete in the WorldSkills Competition.
Both students have competed at SkillsUSA competitions in the past and have the trophies to prove it. At the 2017 national championships, Ryan won the Bronze Trophy in Mechatronics, and Curt won first place in the Electronics Technology division.
SCC faculty Brian Crump, program head, Information Technology, Network Management, and Gary Hatley, program head, Electronics Engineering Technology, will work to prepare the students for the upcoming competitions.
