Stanly softball players named to All-State, All-District squads

The North Carolina Softball Coaches Association has released its selections for the 2018 All-District and All-State softball teams.

Three Stanly County high school softball teams were represented on those squads, including three players who earned individual honors from the NCSCA. District 6 includes teams from Anson, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties.

2A Softball

Five West Stanly Colts received 2A All-State and All-District 6 honors from the team’s record-setting 2018 season.

Payton Whitley

Payton Whitley, the Stanly News and Press Hitter of the Year, was named All-State and All-District. She was also named the District 6 2A Player of the Year.

Joining her on the All-District team from the Colts is senior Bailey Huneycutt (SS); both graduated last month.

Also on the All-District team are rising senior Rosalyn McRae (C) along with rising sophomores Shelby Barbee (Util.) and Jordan Hatch (P). Hatch was also named SNAP Co-Pitcher of the Year.

1A Softball

A total of 10 players from two different Stanly squads earned 1A All State and All District honors for the 2018 season, none of whom were scheduled to graduate in 2018.

Kaitlyn Tucker

South Stanly received seven All-District selections and three All-State, with two players earning individual honors. Rising junior Kaitlyn Tucker (2B) was named All State and the District 6 Player of the Year.

Rising sophomore Sadie Lee was the District 6 Co-Pitcher of the year and was named All-State. The other selection for the Rebel Bulls to both the All-State and All-District teams was rising senior Konner Napier (P/DP).

Four other South players were named to the All-District 6 team: rising seniors Makayla Poplin (LF) and Adison Campbell (SS/P/Util.) and rising juniors Adrianna Efird (3B) and Mattie Hinson (C).

North Stanly had three selections on both teams, including rising senior Mimi Selke and rising juniors Payton L

andis (1B) and Merris Talbert (P). Talbert was also named Stanly News & Press Co-Pitcher of the Year with West’s Hatch.
