A man posing as a customer at a jewelry store darted from the store after snatching a gold chain.

Police say this person (foreground) robbed a jewelry store Wednesday.

At 11:30 a.m. Wednesday a black male with long braided hair entered Kay’s Jewelers at Shops at Olive Place under the guise he was looking for a gift for a girlfriend before turning his attention on gold chains, according to Albemarle police.

As the suspect began looking at a large gold chain, valued at $2,500, he snatched the chain free from the clerk and fled out the door, Capt. David Dulin said.

The suspect ran behind the business located on Leonard Avenue and entered a silver-colored Dodge Charger with an out-of-state license plate and sped away. He was last seen traveling east on the N.C. Highway 24-27 bypass.
