Palestine United Methodist Women to host meal
Published 3:15 pm Thursday, July 26, 2018
The July 15 worship service at Palestine United Methodist Church was led by Pastor Kevin McCormac. The title of his message was “Aren’t You Glad You Know the God I Know” and scripture readings were from Hebrews 6:13-19 and 13:1-2, Deuteronomy 31:6-8, Matthew 28:16-20 and Romans 8:31-35.
On July 22, McCormac shared his message “God’s Goodness” and used scripture from Genesis 1 and 2:1-3, 15-17.
Palestine enjoyed a wonderful Bible school last week. The mission for vacation Bible school was “Chicken Change” where the children were encouraged to bring a plastic egg full of change each night. The change was to be collected and used to purchase chickens for families in Haiti.
The goal for the week was $100 to buy four chickens and feed. The children surpassed their goal and raised enough money to buy 53 chickens and feed.
A very special thank you to Audrey Carter and Amber Johnson for their willingness and love to commit to all of the behind the scenes work that goes into Bible school. Also, thanks to all the volunteers and teachers who gave of their time to make the week successful.
On Sunday, the Palestine United Methodist Women will host their Fifth Sunday Luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately following the morning worship service.
The luncheon will consist of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, desserts and homemade ice cream. All proceeds will go to help support local missions. Donations will be accepted.
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Ministry is collecting juice, cereal, grits, oatmeal, dry beans, green beans, spaghetti, macaroni, other pastas, spaghetti sauce, Alfredo sauce, Jiffy cornbread mix and Hamburger Helper.
Please see Susie Bowers or Robi Cagle with donations.
Many thanks to all who have helped and continue to help this ministry provide food for children during the summer months.
The IllumiNATIONS East fall event will be held Sept. 28-30. Please let Tom Biby or Hillari Thompson know of any members of the community who need work done around their home or if you would like to volunteer to help on a work site.
Volunteers are needed for children’s church for October. See Joyce Hathcock to volunteer.
