Stanly Community College and the Stanly Community College Small Business Center recently hosted Shark Tank Stanly, which was made possible by a $5,000 grant from Wells-Fargo Bank.

Fourteen students participated in the final event. Competitors included students in both the high school and college categories who vied for scholarship monies. First, second and third place winners were chosen in each category.

In the high school category, first place went to Julia Vang of Stanly Early College for a food truck. She received $1,250.

Second place, with a prize of $625 in scholarships, went to Cady Hall and Alasia Duncan of Stanly Early College for healthy candies.

Third place of $300 went to Spencer Mason and Clayton Broadway of Gray Stone Day School for a phone case and accessory manufacturing company.

In the Stanly Community College category, first place of $1,250 went to Lydia Miller for a device that will notify the user if they accidently leave their baby in the car.

Second place of $625 went to Bradley Arrowood and Nicholas Lowder for a project on the financial industry, stocks, cryptocurrencies and 401ks.

Third place of $300 went to Caleb Herrin for a new look at silly string.

Sharks for the event included Gregory Crawford, business relationship manager of Wells Fargo Bank; Colleen Perry Keith, president of Pfeiffer University; Jeff James, superintendent of Stanly County Schools; Kathy Almond, president and CEO of Stanly County Chamber of Commerce; Peter Asciutto, owner of Vac & Dash; and John Enamait, president of Stanly Community College.
