Fairview to have summer luncheon
Fairview ECA Club held its regular monthly meeting at July 3 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center.
Club President Diane Stevenson called the meeting to order.
The thought for the day was given by Sandra Jones. She gave information regarding the American flag which included how Flag Day became a federal holiday in 1941.
She explained the meanings/beliefs of the 12 folds when a flag is being presented. She also gave all members a small flag and then led in the Pledge of Allegiance.
After the June meeting, the 68 pillowcase dresses made recently were presented to Ronny Russell of Live Again Ministries. At that time Ronny said he was in need of 250 bandanas for the senior citizens of Roatan Island, Honduras.
This new project, led by Judy Lynch and Glendel Huneycutt during the last weeks of June, was finally completed; 250 large bandanas were delivered to Live Again Ministries on July 6.
The club’s project for July was a donation to the Stanly County Senior Center to use for the purchase of fans for seniors who are in need.
Members discussed where to have the annual August summer social luncheon and it was decided to Five Points Public House in Albemarle.
The monthly program was presented by Glendel Huneycutt who gave a brief history of cold soups and the many different types. The presentation was concluded with a sampling of three cold soups: cantaloupe, gazpacho and vichyssoise.
The meeting closed with the reading of the Club Collect.
Meetings are open to the public and individuals wanting to learn more are welcome to attend.
Members strive to promote a better quality of life for all through education, community involvement and leadership development.
