Sam Bowles is the newest member of the N.C. Board of Transportation, nominated by Gov. Roy Cooper to represent Division 10 (Anson, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Stanly and Union counties).

Bowles is the managing partner at Threadridge Investment Partners, a private investment managing firm based in Charlotte. Prior to this, he spent more than a decade at Carousel Capital, a middle-market private equity firm.

His work experience also includes time at the Mergers and Acquisitions Department at Morgan Stanley, and as an associate at Castle Harlan and Vestar Capital Partners.

Bowles has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a master of business administration degree from Harvard Business School.

He also serves on the boards of the UNC Healthcare System, The Springs Company, Contour Precision Manufacturing, the Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust, Kenan Flagler School Board of Visitors and Heart Math Tutoring.

Bowles was sworn in at the Aug. 2 Board of Transportation meeting.

He replaces Tracy Dodson, who in April joined the city of Charlotte staff as assistant city manager for economic development.
