Lillian Blakeney

Lillian Irene Allen Blakeney of Norwood, North Carolina, peacefully transitioned to her eternal home on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina after a brief illness.

Viewing of the body will begin at 12 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home in Wadesboro.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Saints Delight Church, 520 Wall Street, Albemarle, N.C. At 10:30 a.m. the family hour will be held, and the service will begin at 11 a.m.

Lillian had lived to be 99 years old and 11 months. She was born in Stanly County. She was affectionally called by many “Grandma.”

She leaves to cherish her loving memory two sons, Waymon G. (Dianne) Blakeney, Newport News, Virginia, and Vincent Henry “Hanky” Blakeney of Norwood, N.C.; two daughters, Georgia L. Blackmon, Norwood, N.C.; and A. Maderia (Larry) Lewis, Greensboro, N.C.

Lillian Irene was born September 29, 1918 and was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Roberta Allen, her husband, George W. Blakeney, a son, George Wilbert “Moose” Blakeney; and two brothers, Thomas Colson and Wadsworth Curlee.

Burial will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Salisbury National Cemetery at 10 a.m.
Smith Funeral Home at 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina is serving the Blakeney family.
