Years as Principal at NSMS: First year

Years in Education: 21

I am originally from Texas, but as a young adult, I moved to North Carolina.

I received my undergraduate from Wingate University and taught seventh grade math and ELA in Union County for four years.

Then, I returned to Texas to care for for my aging parents. I remained in Texas for seven years and taught sixth- and seventh-grade math. I also earned my Master’s from the University of Houston.

In 2008, I moved back to North Carolina to be close to my three children.

I began my Stanly County career as a seventh-grade math teacher at South Stanly Middle School until I became assistant principal at North Stanly Middle School with Anne Watson McClendon.

I enjoyed working with Anne and the NSMS staff for two years before I was asked to serve as assistant principal at West Stanly High School.

In 2014, I became principal of Badin Elementary.

Then, my Stanly County career took me back to where I began, and I became principal of South Stanly Middle School.

Since Anne Watson McClendon was appointed middle school director, I have the privilege of becoming the leader of the Comet Family this year.

I look forward to not only working with the NSMS staff, but also seeing some of my previous Badin students.

On behalf of NSMS teachers and staff, welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. We are excited to have students back at NSMS filling our campus with energy and enthusiasm for learning.

Our mission is to nurture and motivate students to academic success; and we want every student to feel welcomed, connected and part of our Comet Family.

Recently, we had a back to school skate night for our rising sixth-graders combining our three feeder schools to meet each other, their new teachers, PTO officers, as well as me. We had a fantastic turnout and lots of fun.

We’ve got an exciting year planned for our Comet Family.

Our staff is committed to providing our students many opportunities to engage in meaningful and rigorous work in our classrooms, special events, exploratory opportunities, clubs, performing arts groups and athletic teams certain to encourage our students to be involved and stay connected.

We extend a special, yearlong invitation to our families to join us at school activities and events whenever possible.

We want and value your support and involvement in your child’s education. Your active participation is key to the success of your young Comet’s academic and social growth during his/her middle school years.

Please take the time to connect with our PTO if you are looking for a way to become more involved with the school and community.

I am excited, honored and privileged to serve as principal of North Stanly Middle School, where parents, teachers and students strive to build positive relationships that support academic growth.

Our theme this year is “Growing Forward” and I look forward to a very positive and productive year together.

Here’s to an awesome school year of Growing Forward. Join us as we work together to make our school an even greater place to learn each day.
