Carolinas HealthCare System Stanly’s eighth annual HealthWave 5K continues to give back to the community in a unique way.

In addition to promoting a healthier lifestyle through physical activity, all entry fees are forwarded directly to one of seven Stanly charitable organizations.

Participants choose to have their entry fee donated to the Butterfly House Children’s Advocacy Center, John P. Murray Community Care Clinic, Stanly Community Christian Ministry, Stanly County Family YMCA, Stanly County Humane Society, Stanly Health Foundation or United Way of Stanly County.

The HealthWave 5K is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Sunday. The route begins and ends on the hospital’s campus, with the 3.1-mile route meandering through the Forest Hills neighborhood streets.

Stanly Health Foundation’s Rebekah Ayscue laces up for a practice run. She and others will take to the course this Sunday to benefit one of seven non-profit organizations, including the Stanly Health Foundation.

“Our days are filled with helping families receive much-needed food, clothing and assistance. It’s a blessing to have organizations such as CHS Stanly help us make these offerings a reality,” said Heather Kilde, executive director of Stanly Community Christian Ministry.

“So many of our neighbors are hurting. Fundraising often takes a back seat to actually working with clients, so fundraising efforts such as the HealthWave 5K allows us to have more time to help even more people,” she added.

Race organizers are encouraging both runners and walkers to join the hospital’s efforts on Sunday.

Registration is $20 and begins at 1 p.m. Sunday.
