Team ML-24 Charlotte, a Leadership Training class based in Mooresville, is partnering with the Albemarle Department of Parks and Recreation to create a “Legacy Project” to benefit three areas of common interest: the environment, veterans issues and mental health.

The project includes improvements to an existing fishing pier, making it wheelchair safe and accessible, the creation of at least one ADA-compatible picnic area and the installation of a pollinator garden for environmental education.

Team ML-24 will be in charge of fundraising, planning and the installation of the amenities over a long weekend at the end of October.

Albemarle Parks and Recreation has agreed to provide park facilities at no charge for a fundraiser concert and has donated $500 for equipment purchase.

Team ML-24 is in contact with a number of veterans’ organizations, including Disabled American Veterans, Welcome Home Veterans, Team Red White and Blue and Project Healing Waters, as well as the Stanly County Veterans Council, and is hoping to partner with one or more to provide a nonprofit umbrella under which to solicit tax-exempt donations.

The facilities will bear plaques indicating their dedication to American veterans and will provide therapeutic and recreational opportunities for disabled, traumatized and wounded warriors.

A fundraiser concert will be held in City Lake Park on Oct. 21, featuring live music and plate meals.

Team ML-24 Charlotte, with 18 members, is the current graduating class of Gratitude Training, Inc.
