Oct. 19

Stony Hill United Methodist Church, 28996 Stony Hill Road, Albemarle, will have barbecued pork available 11 a.m.-7 p.m. for dine-in or carryout. Cost is $8 per plate.
Menu will include pulled pork, chips, slaw, bread and dessert, with tea and coffee available as well for dine-in.
The meal is sponsored by Stony Hill United Methodist Men.

Christ Episcopal Church, 428 Pee Dee Ave., Albemarle, will hold an indoor yard sale on from 8-10 p.m.

Annunciation Catholic Church will have its 15th annual yard sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Family Life Center.
Entrance to the Family Life Center is on Third Street.
Kitchen items, home decor, toys, outdoor items and much more will be available.
Breakfast will be served 8-11 a.m. with eggs, bacon, pancakes, biscuits and gravy.
Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. with spinach rolls and pepperoni rolls.
There will also be a bake sale.

Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Norwood will have its harvest meal and auction sale.
The meal is from 4-7 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children.
Plates are barbecued chicken, baked beans, slaw, chips and dessert.
A whole chicken is $6.
The auction will begin after 7 p.m.

Palestine United Methodist Women’s Group will host a Poor Man’s Suppper fundraiser beginning at 4 p.m. in the Palestine UMC fellowhip hall.
A meal of pinto beans, stewed potatoes, cabbage, side meat, cornbread, onions, beets and desserts will be served.
Donations of $8 per plate will be collected to help further the group’s community missions.

Plyler Baptist Church in Albemarle will observe its 110th Homecoming service at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Rex Burleson will bring the message and a meal will follow the service.

Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 111 E. Church St., Richfield, will celebrate homecoming with a special worship service at 11 a.m. followed by a covered dish luncheon.

Oct. 27

From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 27, the fourth annual BBQ Cook-off Festival will be held in Locust’s Town Center.
A team of more than 40 volunteers representing numerous local churches will lead the event.
A group of spiritual travelers approached Ronny Russell, director of Live Again Ministries based in Locust, five years ago asking how they could help the organization with some of its projects. A planning team was formed headed by Blaire Singleton and Lynn Helms and a cookoff began.
Cooking teams from all over central North Carolina compete for cash prizes and trophies in several categories involving Boston Butts, ribs and chicken. Judges, using Kansas City Barbecue Society standards of judging, determine the winners.
Food is the main attraction. A $10 ticket, $5 for children, will allow attendees to sample up to 10 of the barbecue preparations, along with the trimmings and a drink.
Vendors are also present for attendees to do some shopping or browsing. There will be a raffle ($10 per ticket) for a $999 Traeger Wood Fired Grill and also a 50/50 raffle.
For children there will be a bouncy house and face painting. Goody bags will be given to kids who come in costumes — a good “dress rehearsal” for Halloween.
A Car and Motorcycle Show will also be going on during the event. Bring your vehicles and participate or just stroll around the show to admire.
Live entertainment will be provided, featuring two bands, the Mitch Hayes Band (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and the Valhalla Band (1:30-3:30 p.m.).

Green Memorial United Methodist Church, 11495 N.C. Highway 138, Aquadale, will have its annual chicken and dumplin supper from 4-7 p.m. There will also be special singing.
Cost for the meal, which includes chicken and dumplings, stew, slaw, pickles, rolls and homemade desserts, will be $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and younger.
The church’s harvest sale will begin at 7 p.m.

Nov. 3

Maranatha Ministry of Oakboro and community churches will have a community coat drive and fall family fun festival from 1-3 p.m. at Oakboro District Park.
Coats (all sizes – kids and adults) are being collected through the end of October. An area will be set up at the festival for anyone who needs a coat to take home with them.
Activities will include kiddie train, bounce house and free lunch. Also fun meet and greet activity booths presented by area churches along with Oakboro Police Department and Fire Department.

There will be corn dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, bounce house, face painting, balloon sculpting, cake walk, sno-cones, treat bags, hay rides, fun and fellowship. The community is invited to attend for a night of fun.

Love’s Grove United Methodist Church, 4360 Polk Ford Road, Stanfield, will have its chicken and dumplings supper from 4-7:30 p.m.
Besides the featured dish, plates will include green beans, slaw, cranberry sauce, roll, homemade dessert and drink.
Cost is $8 per plate, with children 6-11 eating for $3 and ages 5 and under free.
Hot dogs will also be available.
Proceeds will benefit missions.

Colston Street Church of God in Albemarle will celebrate the 16th pastoral anniversary of Pastor Ray Little and First Lady Johna Little.
Services will be at 7:30 nightly with Pastor Dickey of Ramah Grove Baptist Church (Nov. 7), Pastor Iris Jillman of Church of God of Prophecy (Nov. 8) and a surprise speaker Nov. 9.
The series will feature Bishop Jerry Mack of Jipton, Georgia at 4 p.m. Nov. 11.

Bethel UMC on N.C. Highway 740 in New London will hold their annual Thanksgiving fundraiser meal at 4 p.m.
The meal includes turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. Plates for adults are $8, children are $4. Dine in and drive through are available. Proceeds go toward missions.

Kinza Memorial Baptist Church, 4311 Love Mill Road, Stanfield, is participating with the NC Baptist on Mission on a project called Appalachian Christmas Outreach.
The Appalachian Coalfields ministry seeks to meet the physical and spiritual needs of people living in the Appalachian area.
The goal is to collect 15,000 backpacks for children ages 4-15 in the states of North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky.
Kinza Memorial Baptist Church is leading this project in Stanly County.
Kinza seeks help in providing backpacks filled with winter hats, gloves, socks, hygiene kits, Bibles and candy.
