After suffering its only conference loss of the season at Mount Pleasant on Sept. 26, the West Stanly volleyball team had its sight set for revenge on Monday.

The Tigers (18-4, 10-0) responded with another 3-2 victory over the Colts (17-6, 8-2) – this time on the road. With the victory, the Tigers finish the regular season undefeated in conference play.

Scores of the match were 25-21, 16-25, 25-22, 20-25 and 16-14 – with each team alternating winning sets. The fifth and final set made the difference for Mount as it edged out West by two points.

“They played with a lot of heart and a lot of effort,” said Tigers head coach Blair Sanders. “You’ve got two really good teams with good volleyball IQs. It was a great game to end it on. It was stellar play by everybody and an awesome volleyball game tonight.”

In the first set, the Tigers rallied from a 17-20 deficit to win 25-21. The Colts broke off from a 5-5 tie in the second set to lead the rest of the sequence. In the third set, Mount kept a narrow lead the entire set.

The Colts got out to a 10-point lead in the fourth set, but the Tigers fought back, only to fall short at the end. West’s 13-10 lead in the fifth set evaporated as Mount put together a 6-1 scoring drive to capture victory in the match.

Trinity Bolt led the Tigers with 18 of her team’s 34 kills, while Chloe Lowder added five and Maili Weems had four. Lowder – along with teammate Gracen Osborne – each had two of Mount’s four aces. Olivia Smyly posted a team-high 39 digs while Abby Greeson and Osborne each had 24. Lowder notched seven blocks to go along with four from teammate Emma Lotz. Osborne had 29 of her team’s 30 assists.

Kayli Cleaver led the Colts with a stat-line of 13 kills, one block and seven assist blocks. Madison Kee had 14 of West’s 56 kills while Addie Barbee posted three of the Colts’ six aces.

Caylee Clayon notched a team-high 11 digs and Dani Moss added eight more. Raelee Furr, Cleaver and Kee each posted a block. Meanwhile, Barbee recorded 26 of West’s 37 team assists.
