Milas Nemar “Mickey” Smith Jr., 72, of Richfield passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at his home.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Ruth Ann Sipe officiating. Military honors to follow in the Richfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle.
Born September 11, 1946 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Milas Nemar Smith Sr. and Ruth Burroughs Smith.
He was the retired Postmaster of the Richfield Post office with 30 years of service.
He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and was an Engineer 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He was twice awarded the Purple Heart.
Mickey was very active in his community. He was a member of the Richfield Volunteer Fire Dept., the Talbert-Wagoner VFW Post 6369, the Town Board of Richfield and the Pfeiffer/North Stanly Water Association Board.
Mickey is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie Fisher Smith, son Bryan Smith (Michelle) of Richfield, daughters Tonia Icenhour (Dwayne) of Richfield, Laura Smith of Richfield, and Anna Brooks (Tim) of Concord, and grandchildren Colby, Mason, Heidi, Cobrin, Mollie, Milas, Cooper, Lauren and Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Smith and sister Sandra Smith.
