Albemarle continued its dominance over South Davidson on the football field in the history of the series between the two schools in Friday’s 46-6 win.

The Bulldogs (3-5, 3-2 YVC) rushed for 346 yards on 39 carries, led by Julius Smith who had 115 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. Christian Watkins added 71 yards on eight carries with a touchdown while Adrian Little also scored on the ground.

Manaurian Hall completed five-of-six passes for Albemarle for 100 yards and three touchdowns, two to Josh Smith and one to Malik Patterson-Long.

The defense of the Bulldogs had two sacks in the game and picked off two passes, limiting the Wildcats to one touchdown drive in the game.

Albemarle took the opening kickoff and went 76 yards in six plays, including a 50-yard pass from Hall to Brandon Christian. Hall then found Patterson-Long at the goal line after scrambling to his right for an eight-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was wide left, leaving Albemarle up, 6-0.

Albemarle stopped South Davidson on the hosts’ first drive of the night then drove 72 yards in six plays, capped with a 41-yard touchdown run from Julius Smith on third and long. Monta Hall’s extra point increased the Dogs’ advantage, 13-0.

South Davidson’s only points of the night came on a 12-play, 73-yard drive which took the remainder of the opening quarter and part of the second as well. Seth Gathings’ one-yard plunge put the Wildcats on the board. The hosts went for two but quarterback Jackson Ellington was sacked by Christian, leaving Albemarle up, 13-6.

The Bulldogs’ defense came up with points after the offense stalled on a possession. Jaylen Watkins picked off a pass at the Wildcats 29 and returned the ball to the 11. On the next play, Christian Watkins ran off the left side for an 11-yard touchdown run, putting Albemarle up 20-6 at halftime.

Albemarle’s defense forced another turnover in the first half when Keshawn Mouton picked off an Ellington pass at the Bulldogs’ 23-yard line.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs stopped South Davidson on its first drive of the game, taking over at the Albemarle 45. The visitors drove 55 yards in seven plays, converting a fourth down when Hall found Josh Smith open at the Wildcat 20. He then cut back against the grain, dodged several tacklers and won a footrace to the front end zone pylon on the visitors side of the field for a touchdown. Monta Hall’s point after put the Bulldogs up, 27-6.

Adrian Little scored next for Albemarle, capping a late third-quarter, seven-play, 59-yard drive with a 20-yard scamper up the middle for a touchdown, making the score 34-6

Little was not through scoring touchdowns, but his next one came on the defensive side. The Bulldogs linebacker picked off an Ellington pass at the South Davidson 16 and returned it for a touchdown, giving Albemarle a 40-6 lead.

The connections of Manaurian Hall and Josh Smith connected again for points for Albemarle in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs ended an eight-play scoring drive covering 53 yards with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Hall to Smith. The point after was wide left and the Bulldogs led, 46-6.

Albemarle hosts South Stanly (6-3, 4-1 YVC) on Friday night.
