Charles Edward Barnes, 84, of Richfield passed away Monday, October 22, 2018 after a brief illness.
Born September 9, 1934 in Stanly County, he was the son of Cicero and Irene Fraley

Barnes. He retired after 34 years from C. E. Tyler industries in Salisbury, NC.
Charles graduated from Richfield High School. In his younger years he was active in his community and was involved in a variety of community and area environmental and public safety events. He loved community sports and coached and organized many area church and industrial softball leagues and maintained lasting friendships with his players.
Charles was married to his high school sweetheart, Frances Barringer Barnes for 65 years. Along with his loving wife, left to cherish his memory are a son Michael (Mike) Edward Barnes (Tilda) of Eden, NC, their two sons Todd Barnes (Lucy) of Reidsville, NC and Justin Barnes (Molly) of Eden, NC. He had a daughter Lynn Barnes Treece of China Grove, NC, her daughter Amy Treece (Bob) of Denver Colorado and her son Andrew Treece (Allison) of Mooresville, NC. Charles had eight adoring great grandchildren, Bryson, Tyler, Austin, Brittyn, Kaia, Rieland, Annabelle and Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at Zion United Methodist Church, Gold Hill, on Thursday, October 25, 2018. Visitation will be in the church sanctuary from 1:30 to 3 PM followed by the service at 3 PM. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery.
