Ruth Roberts Oettinger, age 91, of Albemarle, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at The Gardens of Taylor Glen Retirement Center in Concord.
The family will receive friends and family at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 from 10:00 am until 10:45 am. The celebration of life

service will follow at 11:00 am in the chapel at Hartsell Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Harold McDonald and Dr. Andy Jung. A private graveside service will follow that afternoon at Stanly Gardens of Memory in Albemarle.
Mrs. Oettinger was born in Marshall, NC in Madison County on July 2, 1927 to the late Julius Caesar Roberts and the late Belva Anderson Roberts.
Mrs. Oettinger was preceded in death in 2012 by her husband Albert Oettinger, Jr., to whom she was married for 60 years. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Oettinger is survived by one son, Anthony Roberts (Tony) Oettinger and his wife, Karen, of Albemarle; one daughter, Patricia Oettinger Pontikas and her husband, Lou, of Columbia, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Oettinger Withers of Vero Beach, Florida; five grandchildren, Hannah O. Maynor (Chad), Ellen O. White (Chris), Sarah O. Edwards (Jimmy), Alexandra Pontikas and Matthew Pontikas; five great-grandsons, Lucas and Aaron Maynor, Henry and Nathan Edwards and Albert White. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Oettinger is a graduate of Warren Wilson College and UNC-Greensboro (Women’s College) and proudly worked as an elementary school teacher for the Stanly County Schools. She also ran a small retail business prior to her retirement and was a former member of Central United Methodist Church of Albemarle.
