Pfeiffer women’s soccer earns berth in ECAC tournament

The Pfeiffer University women’s soccer team has earned a spot into the ECAC Division III Women’s Soccer Championship.

Play in the 16-team single-elimination tournament gets underway on Saturday. Teams were placed in four-team pods with pod winners advancing to the ECAC Semifinals on Nov. 17. Semifinal winners will battle for the ECAC Championship on Nov. 18.

The Falcons enter first round play on a seven-match winning streak, with the last setback coming in a 2-1 loss to USA South East Division Champion Greensboro College Oct. 3.

During the streak, Pfeiffer has outscored the opposition 29-5, with four wins coming by shutout.

Pfeiffer is led by Mackenzie Pruitt; the freshman has netted 11 goals on the season. Teammate Madeline Capel has scored 10 goals while Cayci Eaton has contributed nine goals. Other Falcons to watch include Allison Gonzalez and Meredith Manson, as each have provided six assists on the season.

Pfeiffer junior goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt enters the match with an 11-2 overall record and has allowed just 11 goals in more than 1,200 minutes of play for a .82 goals against average on the season.

Seeded third, Pfeiffer will take on the second-seeded Washington & Jefferson Presidents. Washington & Jefferson enters the match with a 9-8-2 overall record. The winner between Pfeiffer and Washington & Jefferson will advance to the round-of-eight to take on the winner between No. 4 seed Brevard and the host and No. 1 seed McDaniel College.

Pfeiffer will kickoff its first-round game at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday at the Green Terror Soccer Complex on the campus of McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.
