The Pfeiffer women’s soccer team competed this weekend in the ECAC Division III postseason tournament, winning in the first round Saturday but losing to the host school Sunday.

McDaniel 3, Pfeiffer 0

McDaniel College got a hat trick from Maddie Schwartz and kept Pfeiffer scoreless in a 3-0 decision in the ECAC Division III Women’s Soccer Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon in Westminster, Pennsylvania.

The Green Terror struck just 1:31 into the match when Schwartz took a throw-in and bent a shot past Pfeiffer junior goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt from 25 yards out.

Schwartz scored her second goal in the 38th minute on an assist from Cameron Hukill.  Schwartz took the pass from the right side then placed a shot in the top right corner for the 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Schwartz’ third goal came in the 80th minute, this time on a cross from Kirsten Gibson.

The Falcons had several quality opportunities throughout the match, but was kept at bay by McDaniel goalkeeper Katherine Carstensen, who registered four saves on the afternoon.

Hyatt managed eight saves while Meredith Manson and Cayci Eaton had three shots each in the loss.

The Falcons conclude the season at 13-3 overall while McDaniel improves to 12-5-1 and will host the ECAC semifinals and championship next weekend, Nov. 17 and 18.

Pfeiffer 2, Washington & Jefferson 0

The Pfeiffer University women’s soccer team scored twice in a three-minute span to take a 2-0 win over Washington & Jefferson College in the first round of the ECAC Division III Women’s Soccer Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons’ first score came in the 24thminute when Kelsy Esquivel knocked in a shot after Madison Lamb rattled the goal by hitting the crossbar.

Mackenzie Pruitt made it 2-0 less than three minutes later when she deposited a shot past the WJU goalkeeper after receiving a lobbed pass from Allison Gonzalez.

In the second half, both teams managed four shots each as Pfeiffer advanced to the quarterfinals and improved to 13-2 on the year with their eighth consecutive win.

Pfeiffer junior goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt made six saves on the afternoon to improve to 13-2 on the season.
