Albemarle City Council granted a water line extension to Snuggs Park Road residents Robert and Gail Garner during its meeting Monday night.
The couple requested the extension, which usually requires completion of an assessment process and subsequent cost-sharing by property owners along the water line route.
However, the Garners agreed to pay in advance the full assessment amount of $3,885 to the city to expedite the process.
“The city will receive the same amount for the project as if it were done through the assessment process, and it avoids a great deal of expenses associated with notifications, mailings, legal fees and staff time,” said City Manager Michael Ferris in written information provided to Council.
Ferris noted that in previous situations in which parties paid the amount in advance, a 10 percent discount was granted.
The extension and discount passed unanimously.
