South women move to 3-1 with lopsided home victory over West Montgomery

The South Stanly women’s basketball squad improved to 3-1 on the season by winning the team’s conference opener 51-26 Friday night at home against West Montgomery.

Kaleah LeGrand led South Stanly (3-1, 1-0) with 10 points; nine Bulls players scored at least two points in the game.

Malaysha Drake was the high scorer in the game with 11 points for the Warriors (0-2, 0-1).

The Warriors started fast with four points, but South answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead for good in the first period.

South earned some distance from the Warriors in the second quarter, getting six points from Emma Crump as the Bulls outscored West Montgomery 17-4 in the period, leading at 24-10 halftime.

The Bulls maintained a double digit lead for the remainder of the game, pulling away in the final period with a 17-2 run over the final five minutes.
