After coming off a win versus North Stanly (59-42), the Albemarle Bulldogs men’s basketball team traveled to North Moore for their second conference game of the year. Albemarle (3-4) seized the lead early & never trailed en route to a 68-29 road victory Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs scored 22 of the game’s first 26 points and maintained the lead throughout the entire contest on the Mustangs’ home floor. Albemarle started with an aggressive defensive attack and maintain a huge edge from the beginning of the game.

“I wanted to see his guys be consistent defensively through the entire game and he wanted to get everyone involved in the game and that they did. Everyone that played contributed effectively and efficiently,” Coach Raye said.

Brandon Christian led all scorers with 18 points followed by De’Sean Horne with 13 points. Raye said he was pleased with their defensive performance but we need to make the easy baskets and cut down on the unforced turnovers.

Raye said overall he was also pleased with everyone’s performance, including the new addition Lucas Megson, another freshmen on the team along with Ali Currie and Marc Raye Jr.

Coach Raye also said Cameron Williams “was key to how we are going to play our game. He was very aggressive in attacking the basket and making it hard for his man to get in the flow of playing the game by playing stifling defense through out the game. Cameron has been a four year varsity player that has been through it all and is now one of the senior leaders on this team.

North Moore (0-7) surged in the third quarter behind improved outside shooting & cut into the lead but it was not enough to pull out the victory against Albemarle Bulldogs. The Mustangs scored 14 points of the final quarter and continued to play hard through out the game.

Albemarle will play in the Laurie Ann Cruse Christmas Tournament at Mount Pleasant Dec. 26-28. The Bulldogs open at 10:30 a.m. against the Community School of Davidson.
