Pfeiffer wins at Methodist, 97-71; Riddley, Simmons go for 30 and 26 respectively

Pfeiffer University got a career best 26 points from Tyjarek Simmons and 30 from senior Kyle Riddley in a 97-91 USA South men’s basketball road win at Methodist on Tuesday night in Fayetteville.

Simmons, from Roanoke Rapids, N.C., hit six three-pointers on the night and was 9-of-17 from the field against the Monarchs.  Riddley, from nearby Charlotte had a game-high 30 points, finishing 10-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-4 from distance.  Riddley was also 8-of-13 from the foul line and grabbed seven rebounds in the win.

Josiah Avington had 13 points while teammate Craig Sabb posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Falcons led from wire-to-wire building a lead as large as 22 points (50-28) at the 3:05 mark of the first half.

Methodist would cut the deficit to four points on three occasions, the latter coming with 7:20 to play when a Dante Burden layup made it 78-74.

Pfeiffer would build the lead back to 11 points (91-80) with 3:26 to play and Methodist would not get it below six the rest of the way, with Pfeiffer earning the 97-91 win.

The Falcons improve to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in USA South play while Methodist falls to 7-8 and 5-2 in league play.

Pfeiffer returns to play on Friday, Jan. 11 with a 7:30 p.m. game at Brevard.
