Among the biggest issues discussed at Thursday’s Locust City Council meeting was the ABC store at 1008 Main St. made $259,111 in December. It’s the most in the history of the store, said Councilman Rusty Efird.

“For a city the size of Locust, we have to have a ABC store” for business, said Efird.

The money will help in many different areas, including the local police force.

Also, local resident Sherry Vaughn spoke to the council about a house down the road from her that often plays loud music and keeps her up at night.

She recently was up until 1:38 a.m. listening as music flooded her home. She labeled it as “annoying.”

The council deliberated and will most likely send an official to the house with sound equipment to check the decibel level of the music to see if it violates the noise ordinance.

In other news, the council:

Mentioned that a new police officer, Karcin Vick will soon be joining the force. She is a graduate of North Stanly High School.

Cesar Correa, city administrator, mentioned Locust finished the 2018 calendar year on a strong note, with the general fund budget having an increase in its surplus of more than $464,000.
