A new 4-H club will start this year that meets at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center once per month.

This club geared toward 13- to 18-year-old 4-H youth will focus on a variety of skills including primarily cooking/nutrition/food safety and will also feature topics such as sewing and financial management.

Additionally, there will be another new 4-H club starting this year that meets at the Agri-Civic Center monthly. This club, open to 9- to 14-year-old youth, will teach computer coding concepts by way of a computer provided called a “Pi-Top.”

This laptop uses a device called a raspberry pie that allows youth to command their laptops to perform a variety of tasks using coding language.

Both of these clubs are free to the public. An interest meeting for the Pi-Top 4-H Club will be at the Agri-Civic Center at 5 p.m. Jan. 22.

There will also be an FCS Club interest meeting at the Agri-Civic Center at 7 p.m.

Those who would like to reserve a spot in the club must attend the interest meeting.

Stanly County 4-H is seeking to recruit volunteers with personal experience in family and consumer science (cooking, sewing, budgeting) or technology.

These volunteers must be willing to give two hours per month toward assisting the youth in this club.
