Albemarle women win sixth straight, stay perfect in YVC

With Tuesday’s 56-44 victory Tuesday at Uwharrie Charter, the Albemarle women’s basketball squad won its sixth straight game improving to 16-1 on the season and 9-0 in the Yadkin Valley Conference.

Zycoria Tillman returned to the lineup for Albemarle after clearing concussion protocols to lead the Bulldogs with 16 points, adding six rebounds and six steals.

Tameya Newton added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Bulldogs. Shada Wall had six points and boards with four steals while Armani Baldwin added five steals.

Natalie Beeson was top scorer in the game for both teams, leading the Eagles (6-11, 2-7) with 23 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 7-of-15 at the foul line.

Mia Leonard nearly missed a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Bre Brooks led Uwharrie with 16 rebounds.

The Bulldogs travel to Pfeiffer University on Friday night to take on North Stanly (2-9, 1-7).
