The Pfeiffer University men’s basketball team jumped out to a 9-2 lead and never looked back as it throttled visiting Huntingdon College 107-80 in a USA South game Sunday in Merner Gym.

The Falcons started hot with back-to-back 3-pointers from Josiah Avington. Following a Hawk basket, Tyjarek Simmons joined the 3-point parade, canning one to make it 9-2 at the 17:55 mark.

Pfeiffer then went on to build a commanding lead that reached as many as 17 points in the first half.

The second half was no different, as Pfeiffer kept pouring it on. Senior Kyle Riddley was fouled on a 3-point attempt and nailed all three free throws to put the Falcons up 69-44 with 14:58 to play.

The Pfeiffer lead was pushed to as many as 32 points (80-48) following a streaking layup from Craig Sabb. From that point Huntingdon would never get it closer than 23 points, as Pfeiffer took the dominant 107-80 win.

As a team, Pfeiffer hit 19 3-pointers and finished shooting 51.4 percent (19-of-37) from long range and 37-of-65 (56.9 percent) from the field. The Falcons were also 14-of-20 at the foul line.

Individually, Sabb had a game-high 25 points hitting 9-of-10 from the floor while hitting three from distance. He also grabbed six rebounds and had four assists. Riddley had 21 points and hit three 3-pointers while Avington finished with 14 and Simmons completing the game with 12.

Huntingdon was led by Damien Madison’s 20 points and fell to 9-10 overall and 6-6 in USA South games with the loss.

The win boosts Pfeiffer’s overall record to 10-9 and 5-7 in league play.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, traveling to Berea and Maryville Sunday. Both games are scheduled to tip at 2 p.m.
