Report cards not sent home as grading problem affects school districts

There has been a grading discrepancy in the system North Carolina uses to calculate and store grades that has affected 109 school districts — including Stanly County — and 59 charter schools, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

PowerTeacher Pro is part of PowerSchool, which is a provider of K-12 education technology and supports more than 45 million students in more than 70 countries, according to its website.

“Within SCS we will access and determine the impact this change has on student grades and will honor the highest of the calculated grade,” said Hope Miller-Drye, administrative and board assistant at SCS.

Report cards were not sent home Wednesday as originally planned, Miller-Drye said. Report cards will be sent home as soon as the issue is corrected.

While this issue is being corrected, Miller-Drye said students and parents may see changes in their PowerSchool student and parent portals.

“We are currently in the process of correcting this issue as quickly as possible,” Miller-Drye said.
