A strong effort in the second quarter by the Gray Stone women’s basketball team lifted the Knights to a 52-37 conference win Tuesday at Uwharrie Charter.

Lillie Austin paced the Knights (16-5, 11-3 YVC) with 14 points while Danielle Werts added 13.

Mia Leonard was top scorer for the Eagles (8-15, 4-11) with 12.

Uwharrie Charter led 12-9 after one quarter but the Knights rallied, outscoring the Eagles 16-3 in the second period.

The win puts Gray Stone one and a half games ahead of North Rowan for second place in the YVC standings. Gray Stone has two more home games and can secure second place outright with a win Wednesday at South Davidson. The Knights wrap up the regular season Friday night hosting North Stanly.
