North men earn win at West Montgomery

The North Stanly men’s basketball team moved a half-game closer to moving up in the standings of the Yadkin Valley Conference with a 79-52 win Tuesday night at West Montgomery.

Bryson Childress led the Comets with 35 points; the senior guard has 1,994 points for his career, adding to his records for both North Stanly and for the county’s all-time men’s career mark.

Nalik Veasley added 11 for North (14-8, 10-4) in the win.

Q.J. Drake led the Warriors (9-11, 5-10) with 15 and Terrell Baldwin added 13.

With the win, North stands a half-game behind Albemarle for the third place in the YVC standings. The Comets have two games left in the regular season, both on the road; North Stanly plays at the YVC first place’s team Wednesday, North Rowan, then travels to Gray Stone on Friday night.
