The Gray Stone women’s basketball team used a big second-quarter effort to finish the regular season with a 61-38 home win Friday over North Stanly.
Danielle Werts led the Knights (18-5, 13-3 YVC) with 18, while Secorra Medley added 11.
Lexi Goode was the top scorer for the Comets (6-15, 5-11 YVC) with 16.
North finished the regular season in sixth-place, winning a tiebreaker with South Stanly because of the Comets’ win over North Moore earlier this season.
Leading 12-6 after the opening quarter, Gray Stone outscored North 15-2 in the second to lead at halftime, 27-8. The Comets bounced back to outscore the Knights in the third, 15-10, but the hosts pulled away in the fourth quarter 24-15 for the game’s final score.
Gray Stone hosts the No. 7-seeded Rebel Bulls on Monday at 6 p.m. while North Stanly travels to No. 3 North Rowan on Monday in the opening round of the YVC tournament.
