College students will have two opportunities to apply for scholarships from the Stanly Health Foundation in 2019 to help support their studies in healthcare.

The Stanly Health Foundation Roy and Lou Hinson Scholarship will provide an award of $2,500 to help defray the cost of tuition for a CHS Stanly teammate, the dependent of a teammate, or a resident of Stanly or Montgomery counties who will have completed at least 60 hours of undergraduate study by June with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher.

The student must be accepted into a healthcare program of study for either undergraduate or graduate school.

The Hinson Scholarship celebrates the late Roy Hinson’s 41 years of service to CHS Stanly, and his wife, Lou, who is retired from public education and provided many years of volunteer support to the Roy M. Hinson Cancer Center.

The Stanly Health Foundation C.B. Crook Family Scholarship will provide an award of $5,000 to help defray the cost of tuition for a student from Stanly or Montgomery counties or a CHS Stanly teammate who will have completed at least 60 hours of undergraduate study by June with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The student must be accepted into a healthcare program of study for either undergraduate or graduate school.

The Crook Family Scholarship honors the community involvement of the late C.B. Crook and his wife, Betty.

“The Crooks have been leading donors to the Stanly Health Foundation since it was first organized in 1990,” said Jane Boone, executive director of the foundation.

“C.B. served as chairman of our major donor circle, the Stanly Society, for over twenty years. He continued to be instrumental in inspiring this group — now to a membership of 203 couples and individuals, for as long as his health allowed,” she added. “The donations from Stanly Society members have created a broad financial base from which to fund countless programs, projects and services at CHS Stanly to improve the health of our community.”

Complete details, criteria and applications are available on the Foundation’s website www.stanlyhealthfoundation.org, or by contacting Jane Boone at 980-323-4570 or jane.boone@atriumhealth.org.
