Gray Stone women top Highlands, face Albemarle in second round of playoffs

The Gray Stone women’s basketball team made it five straight seasons with 20 wins in Tuesday’s 42-37 home win over Highlands.

Danika Ray led the 12th-seeded Knights (20-6) with 12 points, while Danielle Werts added nine and Lillie Austin had eight.

Kedra McCall was top scorer in the game, leading the No. 21-seed Highlanders (10-15) with 19, while Jordan Carrier added 13.

Gray Stone built a 12-5 lead after one quarter and 24-15 at halftime, but Highlands rallied in the third, outscoring the Knights 13-2. In the fourth, Gray Stone outscored the Highlanders 16-9 to earn the five-point win.

The Knights will travel Thursday to the home of the Bulldogs to take on county and conference rival Albemarle (26-2), who won at home Tuesday over South Stokes 64-32.
