South men’s tennis opens with win over North Rowan

The South Stanly men’s tennis returned four juniors this season as the Bulls opened the season Thursday against North Rowan: Duncan McSwain, Tyler Papin, Ben Smith, and Triston Horton.

South also has a new group of freshman joining the team, including Caleb Lefler, Connor Curlee, Ethan Hatley, Bennett Shelton, Ethan Hopkins, and Noah Mauldin.

“With the combined experience of our veterans and the energy and athleticism of our newcomers, our team goal this year is to try and improve on our third place conference finish last year,” South head coach Carla McSwain said.

Against the Cavaliers, South earned a 5-4 YVC win, playing eight-game pro sets.

The Bulls play Gray Stone on Monday.
