The Pfeiffer University baseball team earned a 3-2 win over visiting Guilford College in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at  Joe Ferebee Field.

Pfeiffer (6-3) scored in the third inning off of a Mason Striplin RBI double that drove in Zach Ferrell, giving Pfeiffer the 1-0 lead.

After Guilford (5-7) took the 2-1 lead in the fifth, the Falcons struck for two of their own and were able to hold Guilford scoreless the rest of the way.

In the fifth, Pfeiffer scored after getting runners on first and second on a walk and a hit by pitch.  A balk from the Guilford pitcher moved runners to second and third and a wild pitch led to the first Pfeiffer run of the inning.  A sacrifice fly from Gauge Gantt brought home the second run of the inning, which would be the eventual game-winner.

The Falcons were limited to five hits on the afternoon, just a day removed from turning in 19 hits against Mary Washington.  Pfeiffer’s Mason Striplin finished 2-for-3 and had an RBI in the win, while Zach Ferrell went 2-for-2.

Holden Carter pitched 5.2 innings for the Falcons, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out three, earning his first win of the year.  Bryce Marsh picked up the save for the Falcons, tossing one inning and allowing no hits while striking out two of the three Guilford batters that he faced.

Pfeiffer will jump back into USA South play on March 9, traveling to Greensboro College for a 4 p.m. first pitch with the Pride.
