Mildred Curlee Cooper

Mildred Curlee Cooper, 92, of Sanford, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at her home.
Mrs. Cooper was born Oct. 24, 1926 in Stanly County to the late Otha Charles Curlee and the late Retta Harris Curlee.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Lee Cooper; sister, Geraldine Curlee Denning; and brother, Joe Harold Curlee.
Mildred was a former teacher and guidance counselor. In 2014, several of her former players from the girl’s basketball team at Boyden High School in Salisbury established a scholarship in her name to support student athletes at UNC-G.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Albemarle, 202 N. Second St., in Albemarle. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Harold McDonald. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 E. Main St., Albemarle.
Survivors include daughters, Marla Cooper Stewart and Susan Cooper, both of Sanford; sister, Carolyn Curlee Hill of Oakboro; granddaughter, Leslie Stewart of Sanford; and many special nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to a local hospice organization of the donor’s choice.
