Pfeiffer women’s lacrosse stays perfect with road win Sunday

Meagan Bourque registered five goals and three assists in helping the Pfeiffer women’s lacrosse team to a 13-10 win at Piedmont on Sunday afternoon.

Five Falcons (3-0, 2-0 USA South) scored with Bourque leading the way with five goals. Teammate Startraya Galloway added four goals, Kaley Hyatt had two and Starnice Galloway and Gabby Bosak each had a goal in the win. Bourque also led the way in assists with three, while Sophia Griffin, Bosak, Hyatt and Daji Harper each had an assist.

The first half was closely contested with the Falcons jumping up 2-0 with goals from Galloway and Bourque. After Piedmont (2-4, 1-1) made it 2-1, Pfeiffer’s Galloway scored back-to-back goals to go up 4-1. Piedmont rallied to tie the game at 4-4 with three unanswered goals inside a three-minute span midway through the half. Pfeiffer again went up 6-4 on goals from Kaley Hyatt and Bourque, but Piedmont responded once more, this time scoring two goals in a 17-second span to knot the game at 6-6.

The Falcons then got two goals to close the half, the first coming on a man-up opportunity from Hyatt then on an even strength goal by Bourque with just 27 seconds left in the half, putting the Falcons up 8-6.

Piedmont started the second half with two goals to tie it once again, this time at 8-8, but Pfeiffer responded with a man-down goal from Galloway at the 20:16 mark, then a goal from Bosak at 19:44. Galloway put Pfeiffer up 11-8 with another man-up goal at 13:57 and Bourque scored at 12:23 on a free position shot from Bourque to extend the Falcon lead to 12-8.

Piedmont was not finished, as it quickly drew to 12-10 after goals at the 10:17 and 8:39 marks, but Bourque scored her fifth goal of the game and 15th of the season with 4:26 to go to provide the 13-0 final.

The Falcons will return home to take on Greensboro College at 12 p.m. Saturday.
